We've got less than two weeks until this year's Winterfest, so we thought we'd do what we always do this time of year: countdown to the event by talking about all the things we LOVE about Door County's quirkiest festival.

Starting with #1: The festival vibe. There's something about having a festival in the middle of winter that just makes sense up here. We love the snow and the cold (or maybe we...tolerate it?) but even those of us who love to be cozy need to get out of the house every once in awhile...and Winterfest is a great excuse to be out and about, see all your friends, and throw a toilet seat or two (more on that tomorrow).

Winterfest is a true community festival in every sense of the word. The festival and its events are planned and run by community members and small business owners, money from the games booths go directly to local schools and nonprofit organizations, and the event volunteers are from our community, too.

And while we love Fish Creek ALL of the time, we're more relaxed in winter, and this chill demeanor shows up at Winterfest, big time. It's a festival where you'll constantly see people hugging or high-fiving, whether they saw each other yesterday or six months ago.

The Sister Bay Historical Society has announced the dates for its 5th Annual Christkindlmarkt, or Christmas market. Christkindlmarkt will take place on three weekends in November and December, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. This year’s dates are Nov. 28–30, Dec. 5–7, and Dec. 12–14.
