Thirty eight years ago, October 5,1988, Phyllis and Michael Selby become the owners of Wildcat Shoals Resort. Mike was a Chamber of Commerce CEO and Phyllis was Vice President of a bank in Illinois near Chicago. Phyllis became the housekeeping manager and Mike became the guy that mowed the grass. A mere 35 years later Phyllis was the senior outfitter on the upper Bull Shoals tail water of the White River. Mike retired having reached the exalted office of Assistant Worm Salesman and mower guy.
Having arrived at age 34 we are now 72. As Indiana Jones said it’s not the years it’s the mileage. Obviously Miss Phyllis has traveled a lot fewer miles than Mike. Someday we too will pass on the stewardship of this wonderful patch of serenity to some silly kids who have decided to quit the world and help sell worms. Thanks to our families, our employees and to our guests who have helped us quit the rat race to enjoy the White River.
