The building that The Stricklin Hotel calls home has been part of downtown Florence’s story for generations.
In 1946, R.A. Stricklin began construction on what was described at the time as “one of the finest new store buildings going up in North Alabama.” The three-story commercial building featured a basement, elevator service and air conditioning, an impressive addition to downtown Florence at the time.
Over the decades, 317 N. Court Street became home to several familiar businesses, including Sharp & Killen Department Store, Belk-Hudson Co., Sterchi Bros. furniture, Heilig-Meyers and later the Gingerbread Antique Mall.
Then, in 2018, a new chapter began when the historic building became home to The Stricklin Hotel and Big Bad Breakfast, preserving a piece of downtown Florence history while giving it an entirely new life.
Nearly 80 years after R.A. Stricklin first envisioned his building on Court Street, his name is still on the door. ❤️
