Momma bear and her cubs are back. Boy have they grown! I hope the guests at our cabin are keeping their doors locked and all food items inside the house. Two more videos in comments.

I had to look up what a group of raccoons is called. It is a gaze. Check out this gaze of raccoons. Watch for the last slow, chubby little guy. β€œHey, wait for me!” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I’m not sure if our current guests follow our page or not. They may be in for a surprise when they see mama bear and her two cubs around. Hope they keep their cars locked.
Looks like mama has her paws full with those two rascals. 🐻 🐻

One of the hardest parts of serving a mountain community is knowing that sometimes the safest decision isn't the most popular one. After careful evaluation of current wildfire and environmental conditions, and with the support of NE Teller County Fire Protection District professionals, the City has made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Fourth of July fireworks display.

Living in the City Above the Clouds means being surrounded by incredible forests, open spaces, and natural beauty. It also means sharing responsibility for protecting them. During periods of heightened wildfire risk, even a single spark can have devastating consequences. Protecting lives, homes, businesses, our public lands, and the first responders who stand ready to protect them must always come first.

As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, we hope you'll join us in honoring the spirit of Independence Day by spending time with family and friends, supporting local events and businesses, and creating memories that don't put our community at risk.

Community members of all ages are invited to join the Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration taking place at Memorial Park. Events kick off at 7:00 AM with sunrise yoga and runs through 3:00 PM when tug-of-war concludes the afternoon. You can find the schedule of events on the organization’s page.

Later in the evening, ring in the sounds of the season during the annual Symphony Above the Clouds featuring the Woodland Park Wind Symphony and opener, Rose the Thorn. This FREE event is hosted at Memorial Park. Gates open at 5:00 PM. All are welcome, but please leave dogs at home. The opening performer will begin at 5:30 PM, with the Woodland Park Wind Symphony starting at 7:00 PM.

Thank you for your understanding and your commitment to helping keep Woodland Park safe. We wish everyone a happy, memorable, and safe Fourth of July.

Colorado has almost 49,000 acres currently burning from wildfires. State resources are spread extremely thin, and we have fire units actively assisting other counties or on standby. If a fire starts in Teller County and gets out of control, it may be a long time before we can receive assistance. Also, the New Mexico has over 4,000 acres of wildfires. Arizona has over 20,000 acres. And Utah has upwards of 200,000 acres. So any national assistance that may be available to us is also spread thin. The Stage II Fire Ban remains in effect in Teller County. Also, a Red Flag warning is in effect on Monday, June 29 from 9:00am until 10:00pm.

There is a certain mountain-town relief in seeing a bright Mexican restaurant when the air is cold and your stomach is louder than your plans. You can feel the promise of hot chips, cold drinks, and a booth that lets you exhale.

This one has that classic roadside Colorado energy, where hikers, families, and weekend wanderers all seem to end up at the same tables. The colorful exterior feels cheerful against the pines and changing weather, and the whole place reads like a dependable answer to a long day in the high country.

Honestly, these are the restaurants that hold a town together. Not flashy, not fussy, just warm, familiar, and exactly what you want after a day spent above 8,000 feet. πŸ”—πŸ‘‡πŸ»
