Colorado just gave wild horses something rare: land big enough to feel like a promise.

Not a cage. Not a roundup. A whole landscape.

The real detail is how much space changes the story.

Near Craig, a former ranch is being turned into one of the largest private wild horse refuges in the country, with 22,450 acres of rolling hills, natural water, and room for hundreds of mustangs to move like animals again instead of inventory.

That matters because wild horses are often managed by pressure. Helicopters, corrals, adoption lists, crowded holding facilities.

Freedom can become paperwork with a mane.

This place flips the script.

A horse that once ran from noise can now run toward nothing at all. No metal gates closing behind it. No panic cloud rising from the herd.

Just wind, grass, dust, and the old muscle memory of open country.

Sometimes rescue does not look like a shelter.

Sometimes it looks like giving the wild enough room to remember itself.

What we have other rentals do not.

Amazonite mine, rock hounds and gem collectors might get to find some.

Views few others have, 280 degrees from a very high ridge at 8800 elevation , with 6 acres and few neighbors to see, over 500 sq miles of forest and mountain views from the cabin.
THAT is peace and quite.
A night sky not close to any town , you can see the Milky way.

Barrow cacti and natural sage everywhere , forests, steep hills and pink granite outcroppings. One can really do EARTHING HERE AND FEEL IT, THE GROUND IS FULL OF CRYSTALS.

Crystal Peak is nearly at the end of the driveway, and Pike's Peak views are close, not the ridge, but the actual PEAK of that renowned 14,115 ft mountain

Little to no mosquitos.

No roaches.

No snakes.

A lighted private entry with parking for many.

Aspens groves, AND spruce and fir and Ponderosa pine in groves that are not "meadows' .

A mitigated property , with some trees over 100 yrs old.
Fresh eggs from our chickens. Farm to table here.

If you like dogs, we have 4 friendly fun ones, who might want to drive home with you. If you don't like dogs, we'll mind that.

We do accept dogs , depends on their size a bit .

We are building a dog area close by too.

They do keep bears cougars and coyotes away . Never seen one on our property in 7 yrs.
Deer we have, foxes if you keep your eyes out for them.

We are very close to eateries and natural wonders. You don't have to drive farther than 20 minutes for many .

And CHARM, nothing is like this actual COZY cabin .
Repurposed , re habbed , re furbished , reclaimed 150 yr old woods , re invented vernacular of an Authentic Western mountain cabin, out of a plywood toolshed..........not a copy and paste .

Created by a real artist /designer/builder, filled with treasures in every nook, with weathered beams, and a real old stovepipe to boot.

" My wife and I loved our stay at the Elf Haus in Florissant Colorado !

The cottage sits at 8,800 ft with incredible views of Pikes Peak and other ranges most short term rentals do not have. We didn't hardly want to leave the cabin, as the views are stunning right there.

This rural private space is very dog friendly ( they have 4 curious playful ones ). The owners were welcoming and clearly poured their hearts and souls into the space. They live close by if anything is needed or questions about the area.

Using repurposed wood and unique artifacts in every room, to create something truly special . The photos do not do it justice.

Both Elf Haus and the surrounding area are stunning. We will definitely be back ! "
