We already showed you the plant side of Lichen or Knot, but this time we’re taking you into LoK Living.

And there is a LOT more to Lichen or Knot than plants!

This side is filled with things for your home and plenty of gift ideas. You’ll find kitchen items, home décor, candles and fragrances, bath products, prints, garden accessories, baby and nursery items, clothing and accessories, seasonal pieces and more.

It’s definitely the kind of shop where you want to take your time and look around because there are interesting things tucked everywhere.

So if you’ve been to Lichen or Knot for the plants, make sure you don’t miss LoK Living while you’re there. It’s a completely different shopping experience and another fun place to browse right here in downtown Floyd.

If you’re wandering through Floyd, come on in and see us at Cordelia’s Fine Goods.

Our little shop is filled with things we love: local finds, gifts, art, photography, handmade pieces, and things that simply remind us of Floyd.

But there’s also a family story behind the name.

Cordelia was our great-grandmother, and naming the shop after her was a way of keeping a little piece of our family history alive.

And tucked among everything else, you’ll even find crocheted pieces handmade by our 92-year-old mother. ❤️ Her grandmother’s name is on the shop, and now her own handiwork has a place inside it.

That makes Cordelia’s pretty special to us.

We’re still growing, still finding new treasures, and having a lot of fun along the way. So if you’re in Floyd, stop in, look around and say hello. You never know what you might find.

There’s something about this picture that just makes me smile.

This is my daughter and my granddaughter, and I absolutely love that they enjoy exploring old places and learning the history behind them just as much as I do.

Apparently, curiosity runs in the family.

And notice the youngest explorer has her stick out in front of her. She wasn’t taking any chances. Somebody has to be in charge of checking for snakes before the rest of us go in! 🐍😂

And before anyone worries, yes, we had permission to be here. This is a relative’s property.

Old buildings, overgrown paths, a little history, and three generations who can’t resist wondering, “I wonder what used to be here?”

These are the days I’ll remember.

One of my favorite things about Floyd is how people look out for each other.

We were over at Floyd EcoVillage Farm when they told us, “You need to go a few miles down the road and stop at Riverstone Organic Farm.”

So that’s exactly what we did.

Riverstone is a beautiful certified-organic farm right here in Floyd, with a farm store where you can pick up fresh vegetables grown on the farm along with other local and regional foods.

And here’s something else we loved. We didn’t even see anyone while we were there, but we were still able to go in, look around and shop because they operate on the honor system.

There’s just something pretty special about that kind of trust.

We found Riverstone because one Floyd farm sent us down the road to support another, and then we arrived to find a little farm store that trusted us to shop even when no one was there.

That tells you a lot about Floyd.

Sorry about the directions interrupting our first video!

Here’s Part 2 of our visit to Floyd EcoVillage Farm. We’re heading into the propagation house to have a look around and learn a little more about what they’re growing.

Come on in with us!

We stopped by the Floyd EcoVillage Farm Store, and I absolutely loved the way this place works.

It operates on the honor system. If no one is there when you stop in, you can still shop. Pick out what you want, check yourself out and leave your payment. There’s just something refreshing about a little store that still works on trust.

And when we did meet the people there, they were extremely friendly and welcoming. Everything looked so nice and well cared for.

The farm grows vegetables, flowers and small fruits right there at the EcoVillage, and they do it without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. Inside the store, you’ll find a changing selection of local goodies such as fresh produce, eggs, locally raised meats, breads and baked goods, honey, ferments and other locally made products.

They also told us about new plants they have coming up that will be available for sale, so gardeners may want to keep checking back as those become ready.

I think what I liked most was how simple the whole thing felt. Good food, local growers, friendly people and an honor-system farm store where you’re trusted to do the right thing.

If you’ve never stopped, put this one on your Floyd list.

And remember, what you find inside can change with the season, which is half the fun. You never know what might be waiting when you walk in.

We came across the Gut Busters gathered in the street Friday night playing “Cumberland Gap,” an old Appalachian tune that has been played for generations. There’s even a documented Floyd County version of the song connected to old-time banjo player Dent Wimmer.

But one of my favorite parts was this sweet lady sitting nearby with her own little dancing fellow.

She told us she got him at the Floyd Country Store. He’s called a limberjack, a jointed wooden dancing doll that bounces and taps along when you work the wooden paddle.

Watching the Gut Busters play while that little fellow danced right along beside them was just about as Floyd as it gets.

We met Michelle Southern with Southern Farm while making our way around Floyd, and this is a booth for anyone who likes something good without a lot of fuss.

Michelle has all kinds of goodies, including dip mixes, soup mixes and drink mixes, along with other Southern Farm products. Some of those dip flavors sounded awfully good, and they’re the kind of thing that’s handy to keep around when company shows up or you need something quick.

And for those of you who keep seeing our Floyd finds but don’t live close enough to come shop in person, here’s something we learned from Michelle:

Southern Farm will ship within Virginia!

We really enjoyed meeting Michelle and learning a little more about Southern Farm. Another small Virginia business we’re happy to introduce you to.

THIS IS ONE I WISH I HAD KEPT FILMING!

We met Michael of Harvest Moon Dulcimer while walking through the Artisan Market in Floyd, and his work was absolutely beautiful.

Michael handcrafts mountain dulcimers, and these aren’t the kind of things you can hurry past. The wood, the shapes, the heart details…you really have to stop and look at them up close.

Harvest Moon Dulcimer isn’t new to Floyd’s artisan community either. His work has been included among the artisan vendors at Floyd Center for the Arts events, including Winterfest and the Floyd Living Traditions Festival.

But here’s the part that got me.

I finished our video, turned the camera OFF, and walked around the edge of his display. That’s when I saw these incredible wings Michael had made.

Of course I had already stopped recording.

They were so unusual and beautiful that I’ve been aggravated with myself ever since!

This is exactly why we enjoy walking around Floyd on Friday nights. You start out thinking you’re just going to look around, and then you meet someone quietly keeping an old Appalachian instrument tradition alive with his own hands.

If you see Harvest Moon Dulcimer set up, don’t do what I did. Keep looking before you turn the camera off.
