Join us at Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Folkston, GA for an evening Owl Prowl just before Halloween! Learn about owl life cycles and how they have specially adapted to become silent nocturnal predators.

🌕 The Owl Prowl will be held on October 30th, 2026 at 6:30 PM. Participants will meet at the trailhead to the Chesser Island Boardwalk at the end of Swamp Island Drive.

Peak night is here. 🌠

From tonight into the early hours of tomorrow, the Orionid meteor shower reaches its best rates over our stargazing field at Okefenokee Pastimes Cabins and Campground, Highway 121, main gate of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Folkston, Georgia.

The best way to watch? From a glamping tent. Settle in by the fire pit, give your eyes about 20 minutes to adjust, and watch for fast, bright streaks radiating out from the direction of Orion. When you’re done, your cozy, lantern-lit tent is steps away. No late drive home, no missing the best meteors at 2 AM.

Tomorrow night is the one we told you about a week ago. The Orionid meteor shower peaks after midnight into the early hours of October 22, fast bright streaks left behind by Halley's Comet, up to 15 to 20 an hour under a dark sky.

Bring a camp chair, bring some patience, and get outside once it gets good and dark.

You can see it in person. The Orionid meteor shower peaks October 21 and 22, and our stargazing field is ready. Give your eyes about 20 minutes to adjust, look toward Orion, and watch for fast, bright streaks. Under skies this dark, the Milky Way is part of the show.
