In Folkston, watching the trains go by is a bona fide event. π The town sits on a rail corridor where two busy lines funnel into one, so dozens of trains thunder through every single day, and folks built a covered platform right beside the tracks just to watch them.
Railfans drive in from all over the country to sit at the Folkston Funnel, coolers packed, scanners crackling, waving at engineers as the boxcars roll past. It is small-town Georgia turning something ordinary into a front-row show, and there is a real sweetness to it. π
Folkston is also the eastern gateway to the Okefenokee Swamp, so you can watch a mile-long freight in the morning and paddle blackwater under the cypress by afternoon.
Are you a train watcher, and have you ever stopped at the Funnel to see them roll through? π€οΈ
