Looking back on 2019 this morning has flooded us with memories of amazing guests, experiences and memories. What a joy it has been to meet all of you and be here to serve you in your travels. We don't get it right 100% of the time, but that is certainly what we work towards, so thank you for giving us all a work we truly love. Memorial Day Activities happening at the Fort Garland Museum.

Kick-off your summer by visiting Fort Garland Museum on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26 for our annual Memorial Weekend Encampment hosted by the Fort Garland Memorial Regiment.

Festivities begin each morning with a flag raising ceremony, and continue with cavalry, infantry, and artillery demonstrations throughout the event. This will be a fun weekend for the entire family!

Great Sand Dunes NPP has been designated as an International Dark Sky Park! This designation is the result of years of data collection, successful efforts to reduce light pollution in and near the park, and night sky programs at the park amphitheater. Learn more on our News page:

Kick off with free admission! All 418 National Park Service units will celebrate National Park Week from April 20 through April 28, 2019, waiving entrance fees on Saturday, April 20. Enjoy a picnic, splash in Medano Creek, spend the night in Piñon Flats Campground, or rent a sand sled or sand board and experience the dunes in a fun and exciting way. Western National Parks Association (WNPA) will offer 15% discount on most store items April 20.

Medano Creek is starting to flow...book your vacation now!

Medano Creek continues to increase each day now. Expect it to be partially or completely frozen each morning, with shallow flow each afternoon. April is the second snowiest month, and windiest month, of the year. After calm, sunny conditions this morning, winds are increasing ahead of a snowstorm expected tomorrow.
