Come to the meeting tonight to find out about the proposed hotel/motel tax for Ft. Gibson. If this proposal passes any hotel or motel in our town will be subject to over 20% for taxes.

As the owner of the only motel or hotel in Fort Gibson currently I wanted to give the people of the town my input on the upcoming vote on April 1st. There are 2 items to be voted for on the city ballot. One is the proposed lodging tax and the other is for the ICTC school board. The Cedar Inn motel has been in Fort Gibson for over 25 years, we are a small family-owned 10 room motel located at 507 West Poplar Street. Currently we pay a 5% lodging tax to the county of Muskogee on top of the city and county sales tax that we also pay. From my understanding if this proposal passes we will be paying an additional 5% lodging tax to the city of Fort Gibson. That will make our lodging tax 10% which is more than what it is in the city of Muskogee. If we are truly trying to bring tourists and people to our town why would we charge more lodging tax that Muskogee does? I am all for upgrades and bettering our beautiful town that I love but I don't think this is the way.
