"The next chapter of Caribbean tourism is maximizing the value that tourism creates for Caribbean people."

Yesterday at Caribbean Week, CHTA President Sanovnik Destang joined regional leaders for the launch of the CTO Tourism Supply-Side Ministerial Committee, reinforcing a message our members have championed for years: stronger tourism linkages create stronger Caribbean economies.

Through CHTA's Linkages Task Force, advocacy efforts, and the commissioned CHTA Tourism Linkages Demand Study, we are working to expand opportunities for Caribbean businesses, strengthen local supply chains, and increase the economic value tourism generates across our region.

This is one example of how CHTA works on behalf of its membersโ€”not only promoting Caribbean tourism globally, but also helping shape the policies, partnerships, and business opportunities that strengthen tourism's impact across the region.

A new partnership built around the people who power Caribbean hospitality.

We're proud to announce that CHTA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Caribbean Society for Human Resource Professionals (CSHRP), formalized at the LOUD26 Conference in Kingston, Jamaica.

This agreement creates a regional framework for knowledge sharing and professional development, putting HR practitioners at the center of how our industry grows. As the Caribbean's largest private-sector employer, our sector thrives when the people behind every guest experience are supported, recognized, and rewarded.

Among the first initiatives: a Regional Hospitality Salary Survey launching in 2027, giving employers benchmarking data on compensation and benefits to help attract and retain top talent. The partnership will also bring co-hosted HR leadership events, preferred CSHRP rates for CHTA members, dedicated webinar programming, and facilitated connections between CSHRP members and CHTA partner hotels.

In the words of Brittany Brathwaite, Chair of CHTA's People Development Initiative and Chief People and Development Strategist at Ocean Hotels Group Barbados, our people are the very foundation of Caribbean hospitality and tourism.

A virtual press launch is coming soon with timelines and programming details. Stay tuned.

CHTA CEO Vanessa Ledesma recently visited St. Vincent & the Grenadines during the Tropical Shipping Disaster Management Workshop.

While on island, Vanessa had the opportunity to connect with SVGHTA members and tourism stakeholders, learn more about the destination, and visit several local properties and businesses.

A special thank you to the SVGHTA and the members who extended such warm hospitality and took the time to share their insights and experiences during the visit.

These visits continue to play an important role in helping CHTA stay connected with members and destinations across the region.

Short-term rentals are now a permanent part of the Caribbean hospitality and tourism industry โ€” and destinations need practical tools to manage growth responsibly.

Thatโ€™s why CHTA released the Comprehensive STR Framework, developed through regional research and consultation with 14 National Hotel & Tourism Associations.

The framework provides Caribbean destinations with guidance on fair regulation, visitor safety, tax collection, data transparency, and sustainable tourism growth, while supporting local entrepreneurship and visitor choice.

Thank you to Caribbean Journal for spotlighting this important regional initiative and the conversation around balanced tourism development across the Caribbean.
