𝗚𝗹ü𝗰𝗸 𝗸𝗮𝗻𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻!
Unser „Lakehouse“ liegt an einem kleinen See in der McGregor Woods Community im Südwesten von Fort Myers, der „City of Palms“ an der Golfküste von Florida. Der Baustil ist ungewöhnlich - es ist ein grosszügiges Architektenhaus und keiner der landesüblichen Bungalows.
Man biegt vom grossen, palmengesäumten McGregor Boulevard ab und ist in einer eigenen, paradiesischen Welt. Wollte man unsere in Jahrzehnten gewachsene Community mit ihren netten Nachbarn und gepflegten Häusern und Gärten in einem Satz beschreiben: Denken Sie an die „Wisteria Lane“ aus der US-Fernsehserie „Desperate Housewives“; das trifft es ganz gut.
Mit 3 Schlaf- und 3 Badezimmern und einer Wohnfläche von knapp 300 Quadratmetern bietet das Haus genügend Raum zum Leben, Geniessen und ggf. sogar zum Arbeiten. Von der Süd-Terrasse direkt am Seeufer hat man einen wunderbaren Blick auf das Wasser und direkten Kontakt zu Schildkröten, Enten, Eichhörnchen, Leguanen, Reihern, Hasen und manchmal sogar einem majestätischen Weisskopf-Seeadler. Keine Alligatoren!
Zur Community gehören auch ein grosser Pool, Tennisplätze und ein Kinderspielplatz.
In unserer Abwesenheit vermieten wir unser Haus privat an besondere Menschen, die sich dort so wohl fühlen wollen wie wir. Allerdings geben die Regeln unserer Community vor, dass nur eine Vermietung pro Jahr erlaubt ist. Eine klassische Ferienvermietung für 1 oder 2 Wochen ist damit nicht möglich; das würde zu Fort Myers aber auch gar nicht passen. Ideal ist unser Haus daher für Mieter („snow- oder sunbirds“), die 6 Wochen bis 4 Monate bleiben und richtigen Florida-Alltag erleben wollen. Als freiberufliche Journalisten haben wir zwei Räume als Büros eingerichtet; das Haus kann also auch als „erweitertes Home-Office“ genutzt werden.
„Winter” und Frühling unter Palmen und mit T-Shirt und Flip-Flops sind ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis. Wir alle hoffen, dass die Traumstrände von Fort Myers Beach und Sanibel Captiva 2023 wieder zugänglich sein werden.
Der Mietpreis (ab $200 EUR pro Tag) richtet sich nach dem Zeitpunkt und der Länge der Anmietung und nach der Anzahl der Personen und ist in Maßen verhandelbar. Inklusive sind sind Strom, Wasser, Wifi etc. Hinzu kommen die lokalen Steuern, eine Kaution und die Endreinigung. Das Ein- und Auschecken sowie die Betreuung unseres Hauses liegt in den Händen unserer kompetenten deutschsprachigen Hausverwaltung vor Ort.
Mit Tipps für günstige Flüge und Mietwagen (ohne geht es nicht; so etwas wie den deutschen ÖPNV gibt es hier nicht) sind wir mit unserer mehrjährigen Florida-Erfahrung gerne behilflich.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱.
Our "Lakehouse" is located on a small lake in the McGregor Woods community in southwest Fort Myers, the "City of Palms" on the Florida Gulf Coast. The building style is unusual - it's a spacious architect's home and not one of the customary bungalows.
You turn off the large, palm-lined McGregor Boulevard and you are in a paradisiacal world of your own. If one wanted to describe our community, which has grown over decades, with its nice neighbors and well-kept houses and gardens in one sentence: Think "Wisteria Lane" from the US TV series "Desperate Housewives"; that sums it up quite well.
With 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and a living area of almost 300 square meters, the house offers enough space to live, enjoy and possibly even work. From the south-facing terrace directly on the lake shore, you have a wonderful view of the water and direct contact with turtles, ducks, squirrels, iguanas, herons, rabbits and sometimes even a majestic bald eagle. No alligators!
The community also includes a large pool, tennis courts and a children's playground.
In our absence, we privately rent our home to special people who want to enjoy it as much as we do. However, the rules of our community state that only one rental per year is allowed. A classic vacation rental for 1 or 2 weeks is therefore not possible; but that would not fit Fort Myers at all. Therefore, our house is ideal for tenants ("snow- or sunbirds") who want to stay 6 weeks to 4 months and experience real Florida everyday life. As freelance journalists, we have set up two rooms as offices; so the house can also be used as an "extended home office".
"Winter" and spring under palm trees and with T-shirt and flip-flops are a very special experience, and we all hope that the dream beaches of Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Captiva will be accessible again in 2023.
The rental price (from $200 per day) depends on the time and length of the rental and the number of people and is negotiable in moderation. Included are electricity, water, wifi etc. Local taxes, a security deposit and final cleaning come on top. The check-in and check-out as well as the care of our house is in the hands of our competent German-speaking house management on site.
