When we opened Orbix Hot Glass in 2002, one of our foundational goals was to bring people together to learn about studio glassblowing in a beautiful outdoor setting. Over the last 23 years, our studio has hosted thousands of enthusiastic learners of all ages. In 2024, our gallery, 210 Orbix, was established in downtown Fort Payne to gather people to learn in a gallery space.

We love our downtown community and want to contribute to its growth. Last year, our flower arranging classes completely sold out, and many of you expressed an interest in even more programming.

If you know me, you know that I love games, hosting, and fostering conversation among people of all ages and interests. With that in mind, it is time to gather your friends and family—from grandchildren to grandparents—because we have some learning and laughing to do.

Coming in March, we are bringing in a wonderful Mahjong instructor, Leigh Cummings, to share with us the art of this game. We have 3 dates on the calendar for this event:

Mahjong 101
March 21st: 3pm-5pm
April 4th: 3pm-5pm (FULL)
May 2nd: 3pm-5pm

Leigh Cummings is an American mahjong instructor and the founder of Little River Mahjong, based in Mentone and Fort Payne, Alabama. She began her journey teaching mahjong at the middle school where she currently works, establishing the first-ever school mahjong club in Tuscaloosa to teach eighth graders this traditional game.

Known for her love of clear instruction, Leigh teaches mahjong using captivating visuals and precise rule explanations within a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Outside of teaching, she enjoys traveling and gardening; her family has visited 14 national parks to date. She lives with her husband, two children, three dogs, and an orange tabby cat.
