🛑Stop packing beach towels.🛑

Half of packing for a beach trip is knowing what you do NOT need to bring. Your rental almost certainly already has bath towels, linens, a full kitchen, and a washer and dryer.

What to actually bring:
✅Rash guards for the kids. Way easier than reapplying sunscreen on wiggly shoulders.
✅Water shoes or flip flops. July sand gets hot enough to hurt.
✅Bug spray if you are staying bay side or sound side.
✅Buy or Borrow when you get here: sand toys, floats, umbrellas, sunscreen refills. Not worth the suitcase space.

✨PRO TIP: Borrow bins for beach toys, boogie boards and sometimes beach chairs on Okaloosa Island are located at each of the numbered public beach access points along Santa Rosa Boulevard and at John Beasley Park.

Double red flag means the water is closed. Not "be careful." Closed. 🚫

It is the thing visitors misunderstand most, and it is the one that actually matters. Rip currents are the real hazard on this coast, and the flags change daily.

A few others we tell every guest:
👉Skip the Marler Bridge between 4 and 6 p.m.
👉Grocery shop on arrival day, not day two.
👉Fill in every hole you dig.
👉Sea turtle season runs May through October.
👉Sunset is better on the bay side than the Gulf side.

✨Dewey Destin's, but the bayside location. Everyone finds the harborside one. Locals mean the original.

✨Stewby's Seafood Shanty. Counter service, picnic tables, fried Gulf seafood that will not wreck your budget.

✨The Bay Cafe. Forty years on the water, catering to locals rather than tourists. Get the Grouper Wellington.

✨Old Bay Steamer. Crab legs by the pound. Roll up your sleeves.

Ordering tip that never fails: ask what came off the boat that morning. The answer changes daily and it is always the right order.
