If saltwater fishing on the Emerald Coast has been on your list but you've never gotten around to it, September 5 is worth knowing about. It's Florida's license-free saltwater fishing day, which falls on the first Saturday in September every year.

Do you need a fishing license to saltwater fish on September 5? No. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission waives the recreational saltwater fishing license requirement that day for both residents and visitors, whether you're fishing from shore, a pier, or a boat. What the waiver does not touch: seasons, size limits, bag limits, and species-specific regulations. Those still apply exactly as they would on a licensed day.

Before you head out, decide where you're fishing and pull up the current FWC rules for that location and species — https://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/ . Rules vary by species and can change, so it's worth checking the day of rather than relying on last year's numbers.

Taking the kids out for their first trip? Keep it simple. A short session beats an all-day outing for a beginner's attention span. Basic rod-and-reel setup, plenty of water, some shade if you can find it. Make the goal learning how to cast and bait a hook, not landing something huge — the ""big fish"" trip can come later once the basics feel natural.

Who's your go-to fishing buddy, and where on the Emerald Coast are you planning to cast a line Saturday? Tag them below or send this their way before September 5.

A good beach day starts before everyone reaches the sand. First: check the current Okaloosa County beach flags—conditions can change even when the weather looks beautiful. You can receive county beach-condition alerts by texting BEACH to 44144. Second: bring the things your family personally needs such as water, sunscreen and protective clothing. Third: check what your rental already provides before loading the car. At Treasure by the Sea, verified beach items include a beach cart, chairs, umbrellas, cooler, beach toys and applicable flotation gear. Less hauling means an easier walk and an easier end to the day.

Each trips are beautiful, but real life still comes with you.

Sometimes the kids are ready for the sand, the weather is perfect, and your body decides day one is also the first day of your period.

That is why a good beach stay is not just about being near the water. It is also about having a comfortable place to rest, reset, grab what you need, and ease back into the day when you are ready.

At Treasure by the Sea, families can enjoy Okaloosa Island with a home base that makes real-life vacation moments feel easier.

Staying on Okaloosa Island tonight and already did the sunset walk or another restaurant? Gulfarium has an option most visitors never think to check: UNDERWATER, an after-hours yoga class held right inside the Living Sea Aquarium.

Does Gulfarium do anything at night? A few times a season, yes! doors open at 6:45 PM, class runs 7–8 PM, and you're moving through a slow flow with the tank's marine life as your backdrop instead of a mirror. It's open to ages 12+, own mat required.

Because it skips the kid-show format, it's a nice fit if you're a couple looking for a different kind of date night, traveling without little ones, or bringing teens who are past the ""watch the dolphin show"" stage. Not your typical aquarium visit.

Check ticket availability here before you head over, spots are limited: https://gulfarium.com/event/underwater-the-living-sea-experience-3/2026-09-02/

Save this or send it to whoever you're on the island with this week.

One of the easiest ways to overcomplicate a first Emerald Coast trip is treating Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island like they are the same place. Treasure by the Sea is on Okaloosa Island, between Fort Walton Beach and Destin. That makes it practical to enjoy island beach time while choosing when you actually want to head toward Destin attractions. Our advice for first-timers: choose your home base first, then build the itinerary around it—not the other way around. And never assume everything is walkable simply because a listing says “near Destin.” Save this before planning your first Okaloosa Island vacation.

No beach destination is crowd-free, especially during popular travel periods. But travelers who want the Destin-area experience with a more relaxed place to return to should put Okaloosa Island on the comparison list. The goal is not to avoid every person—it is to create a trip that feels easier.

Save this before choosing your Destin-area home base.

Hands-up if you have the same mom! 😂

This is the very reason why our home is really built for families/ groupd and intentionally well-stocked. We don't believe in starter supplies; while on vacation, the last thing you should be doing is shopping for toilet paper or trash bags. Vacation should feel like a break not a grocery run for everything your rental forgot. 😅

At Treasure by the Sea, we focus on the practical details that make family trips easier, from a full kitchen, baby essentials (pack n play, baby gates, baby utensils, etc.) and beach gear to a comfortable setup that helps you settle in faster.

Because moms deserve to vacation too. 🌴🌊
