Long before there were room keys at 503 Bryan Ave., there was a firehouse.

Built in 1911 by Fort Worth architects Sanguinet & Staats, Fire Station No. 5 served the city for more than five decades. Its firefighters were among those who helped protect Fort Worth during the Great South Side fire, and its doors remained open to the city until the station closed in 1965.

The building changed hands and purposes over the years, but it remained standing. Its history, its brickwork, and the service it represented made it a landmark worth saving.
Today, The Nobleman Hotel begins a new chapter inside those walls. The setting is different. The sense of welcome is not.
