💕 What Kind of Vacation Rental Guest Would Dolly Be?

I have a feeling Dolly would be the kind of guest every vacation-rental host hopes for. ✨

She’d be kind, gracious and respectful—but she certainly wouldn’t be afraid to speak up when something wasn’t right.

🏡 If something was missing, she’d let the host know.

🔧 If something wasn’t working, she’d give the host a chance to fix it while she was still there.

💬 If the host checked in and asked, “Is everything okay?” she’d answer honestly—because you can’t fix a problem you don’t know about.

❤️ She’d remember that behind many vacation rentals is a real person or family who genuinely wants their guests to have a wonderful stay.

🧹 She’d treat the home with care, respect the people who clean and maintain it, and understand that occasionally something can be overlooked or unexpectedly break.

⭐ And when it came time to leave a review, she’d be truthful and fair—including not only what may have gone wrong, but how the host responded and whether they tried to make it right.

Because being a great guest doesn’t mean everything has to be perfect.

It means communicating when it isn’t.

A little kindness, a little grace, and good communication go a long way.

As an Airbnb Superhost and a VRBO Premier Host, I’ve learned that not every guest will love every stay—and that’s okay. Constructive feedback is part of hospitality. But what is frustrating is when a guest never communicates a single concern during their stay, ignores every check-in message, and then leaves a review filled with false claims or unnecessarily hateful remarks after they’ve checked out.

Being a Superhost isn’t luck. It’s earned through consistency, hard work, and going above and beyond for every guest. Before each arrival, I complete a thorough walkthrough of the property, documenting everything with photos and videos to ensure it’s clean, safe, and exactly as advertised. I send check-in messages, make myself available, and genuinely want to know if anything needs attention because if there’s a problem, I want the opportunity to fix it.

But I can’t solve problems I don’t know exist.

If you stay for your entire reservation without mentioning an issue, tell me everything is fine—or simply don’t respond at all—and then post a review claiming your experience was terrible, you’ve taken away the only opportunity I had to make things right. That’s not constructive feedback; it’s unfair to hosts who work tirelessly to provide exceptional experiences.

Reviews carry real weight. They affect visibility, bookings, and the reputation that many of us have spent years building one five-star stay at a time. They should be honest, accurate, and based on facts—not surprises after checkout or statements that don’t reflect what actually happened.

A little communication goes a long way. Most Superhosts aren’t just trying to earn five stars—we’re trying to earn your trust.

✨ The kind and professional alternative:

If something isn’t meeting your expectations, send your host a message during your stay. Give them the opportunity to respond and resolve the issue. If they ignore your concerns or refuse to help, then your review should reflect that experience honestly. Fair communication creates better outcomes for everyone and makes reviews more valuable for future guests and hosts alike.
