HE DID IT! Greybeard made history today! At 91 years old, he is now the oldest person ever to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail—completing the entire 2,190+ mile trail within a 12-month period—and has earned a Guinness World Records title.

And this isn’t his first time - he also set the record back in 2017 at 80 years old, when Greg and I first met him during our AT thru-hike. Greybeard stayed with us six months ago during this incredible adventure, and I had the honor of hiking with him for two days. We’re so grateful we got to be a small part of his journey—and to witness this amazing accomplishment firsthand. CONGRATULATIONS, GREYBEARD!!

We did it! Day 3, final day on the Silver Comet Trail - 40.5 miles! 💚🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️✨ It was a sweaty one! 🥵

Day 2 Silver Comet Trail - 51.4 miles! Not sure why we have to do things the hard way, but the heat about killed us today! We were so focused on no rain that we didn’t realize there’d be a heat and humidity advisory. We were as smart as we could be - left at the break of daylight, had lots of water and electrolytes, and took lots of breaks in the last 15 miles (that also had to do with hills!) once it started getting really hot. But we did it! Had an excellent lunch in Cedartown at Pirkle’s Deli (and enjoyed the air conditioning). Saw squirrels, baby chickens, deer (crossed path right in front of us), long horn cattle (so cool), and lots of rabbits today. 💚🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️✨

Day 1 Silver Comet Trail - 40.5 miles today! Parked at Publix and took 1 mi connector trail to the start. This rail-to-trail is 61.5 miles long and we’ll be doing a yoyo (out and back), for a total of 123 miles. We are in Rockmart tonight, tomorrow will have 48 miles to do (to the end of the trail at the state border and then turn around) and will stay in Rockmart again. 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️✨

One of our favorite things about Chica & Sunsets Place is that it still carries the hiker spirit of what was once Chica & Sunsets Hostel.

A huge thank you to The Grove Hostel for gifting us this special piece of history!

The Overmountain Shelter, one of the Appalachian Trail’s most iconic shelters, was a converted red barn in the Roan Highlands of North Carolina that welcomed hikers for decades. We took this photo during our 2017 AT thru-hike, and it was one of our favorite places to see on the trail. After the shelter was dismantled in 2023, this piece of wood became a meaningful keepsake from a place that held a special place in the hearts of generations of hikers. We’re honored to give it a home here, where its story can continue to be shared with fellow hikers and guests who stay with us.
