There’s something special about the tradition of the Minnesota lake resort.

The world around us keeps changing. Life moves faster, technology moves faster, and so much of what we knew growing up feels different.

But somehow, the traditional Minnesota resort has stayed the same.

Last night, as darkness settled in, I was sitting outside talking with some of our guests when I could hear kids laughing and running through the grass. They were playing tag, making up their own games, and roaming around with flashlights as the evening got darker.

And I couldn’t help but think about how generations of kids have done exactly the same thing at Minnesota resorts.

Meanwhile, their parents sat around the fire, relaxing and visiting, knowing their kids were safe, free, and having the time of their lives.

The lake. The campfire. The laughter. Kids wandering around after dark with nothing but their friends, their imagination, and a few flashlights.

Some things really don’t need to change.

Maybe that’s what makes the Minnesota resort tradition so special. Because someday hopefully these same kids will continue the tradition…

Yesterday I looked out at the dock and saw something that made me smile.

A group of kids had gathered around with a net, completely fascinated by whatever they had discovered in the water. They weren't in a hurry to be anywhere else. They were asking questions, laughing together, and completely caught up in the simple joy of exploring.

It reminded me of the kind of childhood so many of us remember... where summer days felt endless, curiosity led the adventure, and the best entertainment was whatever you could discover outside.

That's the atmosphere we hope families find at Rose Ridge Resort.

A place where kids can trade screens for skipping rocks, catching frogs, exploring the shoreline, making new friends, and creating the kinds of memories they'll still be talking about years from now.

Year after year, we've watched this family grow from one generation to the next. They've celebrated life's biggest milestones, navigated seasons of loss and change, welcomed new faces, and this week even added another chapter with an engagement. Through it all, one thing has remained the same: making time to gather at the lake.

💍 **She said YES!** 💍

There are some moments that make owning a family resort extra special... and this is definitely one of them.

This week, one of our longtime resort families celebrated a beautiful engagement right here at Rose Ridge Resort. The bride-to-be has been coming here since she was a little girl, creating summer memories with her family year after year. Now, those memories have come full circle with the start of a brand-new chapter.

We are so honored that Rose Ridge could be part of such a special moment. Congratulations to the happy couple! Wishing you a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventures together.

Some of the hardest moments of owning a family resort aren't the busy days or the long hours—they're the goodbyes.

This week we're saying "see you later" to a family that has been making memories on Rose Lake for over 55 years.

We've watched children become parents, parents become grandparents, and now even great-grandchildren running down to the beach. It's been such a privilege to see multiple generations laugh together, fish together, swim together, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

As life changes, families grow, schedules get busier, people move away, and some even find lake places of their own. It's all part of life's journey, even though it makes saying goodbye a little bittersweet.

To your entire family: thank you for letting us be a small part of your story. We truly cherish the years you've spent here and the memories you've made at Rose Ridge Resort.

Please know this will always be your home away from home. Whether it's next year or years down the road, our doors—and our hearts—will always be open. ❤️

Our hearts are with our neighbors in Detroit Lakes and everyone affected by last night's tornado.
