The restoration of West Baden Springs Hotel didn’t stop at the hotel doors. ⛲️

Decades of overgrowth had taken over the grounds surrounding the property, including the historic Seal Fountain. Originally displayed in the hotel atrium in 1902 before being moved outside in 1917, the fountain suffered years of damage from brush and tree roots.

In 1996, the fountain was carefully deconstructed, rebuilt, and transformed into the beautiful flower basin that welcomes guests today.

Bringing West Baden Springs Hotel back to life was no small task. Phase 1 of the restoration focused on critical structural upgrades, laying the foundation for the grand revival of this historic landmark. Later phases would bring even more extensive work to the guestroom floors and beyond.

Now, as we celebrate 30 years of the Cook legacy, we invite you to honor the “save of the century” and the remarkable restoration that returned this architectural masterpiece to its former glory.

Gold on the roof? ✨🏢
The gold leafing in French Lick Springs Hotel lobby may steal the spotlight, but did you know the exterior shines just as brightly?

An additional $64,000 worth of 23K gold leafing was used on the exterior of the hotel during the restoration. If you’re walking through the gardens on a sunny day, just look up, you’ll spot the golden roof of 1875: The Steakhouse.

Over the past 30 years of the Cook Legacy, it’s clear no detail was overlooked in the grand restoration of our hotels.

Community, ice cream, and the promise of a bright future. 💡
August 28, 1996 Ice Cream Social

For the first time in nearly 58 years, the West Baden Springs Hotel Archway was lit in its entirety, a moment worth celebrating. To mark the occasion, the Cook family hosted a community-wide ice cream social beneath the arches, welcoming hundreds of guests from across the community.

That brilliant glow carried a powerful message: after decades of uncertainty, the future of West Baden Springs Hotel was finally secure.

Now, 30 years into the Cook legacy, it’s time to celebrate once again. Join us under the arches, just as Mr. and Mrs. Cook did in 1996, for the 30th Anniversary Ice Cream Social on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
