Today, Rex and I are thinking about the sacrifices made by so many brave men and women, and the families who carry those memories with them every day.

As we spend time with loved ones and enjoy this beautiful place we call home, we’re reminded not to take those freedoms for granted.

The 6th Annual Gathering of the Eagles Canoe Journey returns May 16–22, bringing together canoe families, cultural leaders, and island communities for a week of cultural exchange, storytelling, song, dance, prayer circles, traditional foods, and connection across Lopez, San Juan, Shaw, Orcas, and Lummi Islands.

Visitors are welcome to attend these free community gatherings and experience a side of the islands that goes far beyond the usual tourist path.
