We heard you — and we're making a change.

Ozarks weather can change fast, and we know rain in the forecast can make it hard to plan a river day. Our goal is to keep trips running when conditions are safe, while giving guests more confidence when they book with us.

We're adding a Rain Check option.

If it rains on the day of your scheduled trip, guests may request a one-time rain check to reschedule for another day, subject to availability. Rain checks must be requested and approved before guests are shuttled or the trip begins.

Once guests are shuttled, checked in, or the trip has begun, it is considered started and no rain check will be issued for weather.

Rain checks are not refunds — they are non-refundable trip credits. Refunds still follow our standard cancellation policy: refunds are issued if James River Outfitters cancels the trip, or if a guest cancels at least 48 hours before the scheduled trip time.

Then and now on the James.

The old black-and-white photo appears to show night gigging on the James River near Camp Yocum, just upstream from Galena. Local history records tie Tom Yocum to guiding on the James, and one old-photo archive notes that he ran a fishing camp near Galena in the early 1900s.

The "now" is still out there if you know where to look. When you float this stretch, watch the hillside around old Camp Yocum. You can still spot the weathered cabins tucked back in the trees, a quiet reminder that this river has been pulling people into the Ozarks for generations.

Different cabins. Different boats. Same James River.

That is part of what makes this stretch special: you are not just floating past scenery. You are floating past old river stories.

There’s a lot of river history in Galena.

Long before today’s float trips, this stretch of the James River was already part of how families and visitors experienced the Ozarks. From the old Galena Boat Co. days to the Y-Bridge era, river days here have been a tradition for generations.

A lot has changed, but the reason people come here really hasn’t: slow down, get outside, spend time with your people, float a beautiful stretch of river, and head home talking about it the rest of the week.
