We are getting into cold stun season for the upper Texas coast!

When the water temperature drops below 50°F, sea turtles will cold stun, meaning they lose the ability to swim, are susceptible to boat strikes and tend to be blown towards the shore by wind. On the shoreline, they can suffer predation, frostbite and pneumonia.

Be sure to call 1-866-TURTLE-5 immediately so that a permitted GCSTR team member can respond.

Our models do not anticipate a large event this coming week, but our team is ready to respond. Please only call for stranded or nesting sea turtles, and not those swimming or foraging in their habitat.
