Join us in celebrating the Galveston Fourth of July parade, featuring dozens of floats. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Seawall Boulevard at 57th Street and proceed east to 27th Street. The first show will begin at 9 p.m. and the second at 10:30 p.m.

Float line-up will begin at 4 p.m. along 59th Street. At 5 p.m. the line-up group will move to the Seawall between 59th and 57th Streets to help stage the floats and get them in the correct order. At 6 p.m., the parade will begin from 57th Street and head toward 27th Street.

The Traffic Division will reopen the roads from along Seawall to 25th Street as the parade passes. The Seawall will be open to two-way traffic immediately following the parade.

Due to the street closures along the parade route, the trolley service will end at 4 p.m. on July 4.

Good information for island visitors.

Good information for island visitors.

As the weather warms up and visitation increases to the island, the City of Galveston is prepared for crowds. We've compiled some important information and tips at galvestontx.gov/visitorinformation

One of the first you should know is what to do if you're planning an event. The City of Galveston is accepting special event applications for those wishing to host an event in Galveston. Please keep in mind that all large gatherings occurring on public property, including roadways and parks, require a special event permit. Unpermitted large events will be subject to code violations.

The City of Galveston and its Tourism Partners at the Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) will not tolerate deliberate attempts to block access to roadways, neighborhoods, businesses and attractions or to impede traffic in any way.

👉Emergency Crews must have clear access on roadways and points of entry along the beaches.
👉Events that are not officially sanctioned will be asked to disperse.
👉City and CVB officials are prepared to assist organizations in planning and managing large scale events on the Island.
👉Galveston has a zero-tolerance policy for racial intimidation, public intoxication, nudity, lewd behavior, alcohol on the beach (with the exception of East Beach) or vandalism.

Interested parties may access the special event permit at galvestontx.gov/specialevents or call 409-797-3705.

Should be a great show!

COVID concerns snuffed out the popular show last year, but Galveston Park Board of Trustees are moving ahead for 2021.

Thursday, Jan. 14 update: The notification from Airbnb was not a mass email and was perhaps even sent in a few isolated cases. Airbnb is aware of the error and is instructing their property managers accordingly.

Wednesday, Jan. 13: It's come to our attention that Airbnb has sent out a letter to its clients in Galveston that contains inaccurate information. The letter is apparently intended to notify short-term rental property owners that they have signed a contract with the City to collect local Hotel Occupancy Taxes. This letter is inaccurate.

The City does not have an agreement with the company to collect local hotel occupancy tax nor is it negotiating with Airbnb to do so. The issue is one that is under consideration and will go before City Council for discussion in a workshop meeting later this month.
