One of the things that makes The Blue Herron special to us is that it really is a family affair. 💙

We’re not a big vacation rental company with a whole team somewhere else. We’re family.

Brandon takes care of and manages the property, and Tianna and Christina each bring their own talents and passions to the family.

And when we renovated The Blue Herron a couple of years ago, they weren’t just watching from the sidelines. Tianna, Brandon, and Christina all had a hand in the design decisions that helped turn this historic house into the home we’re so proud to share today.

Between landscaping, music, theater, community events and everything else life throws at us, we’re a pretty busy bunch. 😂

But The Blue Herron gives us another reason to stay connected to the island we love.

We’re local. We live here. We work here. We support other local businesses. And we genuinely enjoy sharing Galveston with the people who come to visit.

We put a lot of ourselves into this place.

And hopefully, when you walk through the door, you can feel that. 🌊

Okay, Galveston friends… we need to settle something!

What is the BEST thing about visiting the island when the weather finally starts cooling down?

🌊 Walking the beach without melting
🍤 Sitting outside for dinner
🎶 Live music
🚲 Exploring the historic neighborhoods
☕ Coffee and a slow morning
🐚 Hunting for treasures on the beach
🍂 ALL OF THE ABOVE

We may be slightly biased, but we think fall is a pretty fantastic time to be on this island.

And if you haven't experienced Galveston when it's a little quieter and the temperatures are a little kinder… you're missing out.

We have a very important vacation rule at The Blue Herron: You are absolutely allowed to do nothing. 🤷‍♀️

👍Sleep late.

👍Drink your coffee slowly.

👍Spend half the afternoon sitting on the porch.

👍Go to the beach and come back without accomplishing a single productive thing.

👍Order dinner instead of cooking.

👍Play cards until somebody gets overly competitive.

You're on vacation. 💙

Of course, we have house rules because we want to take good care of this historic home — but we're not interested in giving you a giant list of chores to complete before you leave.

Come relax.

We'll take care of the rest.

There’s something we hope people understand about The Blue Herron…

This isn't just a vacation rental to us.

It’s a piece of Galveston history that our family has been entrusted with caring for.

Built in 1868, this home has been here for more than 150 years. It has survived storms, changes to the island, generations of families, and countless ordinary days that probably didn't seem particularly historic at the time.

Today, we get to open those doors and let other families make their own memories here.

And we don't take that lightly. 💙

We put a lot of time, attention, and love into this house because we want our guests to feel comfortable here — not like they're staying in some generic rental that could be anywhere.

You're staying in a real historic Galveston home.

And for a few days, its story becomes part of yours.

Well… hello again, Galveston! 👋🌊

It’s been a little quiet around here lately, but The Blue Herron hasn’t gone anywhere.

We’ve been busy with life, family, work, and all the things that come with running a couple of small local businesses — and now we’re ready to get back to sharing a little more of what’s happening around here.

If you’re new here, welcome! If you’ve been following us for a while, thanks for sticking around. 💙

We’re still the same family-run historic cottage in Galveston’s East End Historic District, still surrounded by amazing local businesses, still passionate about this island, and still convinced that the best vacations are the ones where people actually spend time together.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more of The Blue Herron, Galveston history, local places we love, things to do around the island, and a few glimpses behind the scenes of the family that keeps this little place going.
