🎉Congratulations to Kris as our Week 14 Adventure 250 prize winner!

Kris really embraced the spirit of Adventure 250: Make Your History, completing her adventures at parks across central South Dakota, including Farm Island & West Bend Recreation Areas, LaFramboise Nature Area, Oahe Downstream Recreation Area, and West Whitlock Recreation Area!

Her adventures earned her an RTIC 20 Qt Soft Cooler, sponsored by the Independent Insurance Agents of South Dakota. Kris picked up her prize at Palisades.

From the Missouri River and Lake Oahe to scenic trails and unique landscapes, Kris’s Adventure 250 journey shows just how many incredible places there are to discover across South Dakota.

FUN FACT FRIDAY: Established in 1912 Custer State Park was South Dakota’s first state park with 71,000 acres of land containing bison herds, granite peaks, and rolling plains.

For the 2026 camping year we will be making a post every Friday, dubbed “Fun Fact Friday”, highlighting our nation’s 250th anniversary and the Adventure 250 Challenge.

Our 12th Fun Fact Friday of the year highlights some park history here at Palisades.

FUN FACT FRIDAY: The first 25 acres of the park were donated to the state by Winona Lyons and the additional 142 acres were accumulated over the next few years. In 2019 the park grew to its current size of 435 acres.
