Happy New Year!
Mille Lacs officially is covered with ice today! Most accesses are allowing ATV’s and walkers in the bays for now. If your interested in fishing on Mille Lacs or snowmobiling the local trails, we are happy to host your group at our cabin. We have a few openings at our Mille Lacs cabin this Fall. The cabin has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and can sleep 10. It is very spacious and is a great space for hunters, ice fishing, scapbooking, girls weekends or families. It is located in Garrison on the west side of Mille Lacs. The winter of 2021, the MRKIRK team spent 14 weekends and made quite the improvement to this cabin on Mille Lacs. We look forward to sharing this with others and it can be found on AirBnb and VRBO. It has been a success thus far as most summer dates are reserved and our guests have enjoyed the cabin. With most of the indoor projects completed, and the weather warming, we moved our efforts outdoors. With help from Josh G, we spent the next 2 weekends cutting and stacking wood, buidling bunk beds, installing siding, replacing the front door, installing an outdoor firepit and building benches. We are getting close!

Once the floors were removed the decision was made to remove a wall separating the porch from the kitchen and also install a HUGE table and new floors to this new area adjacent to the kitchen. It was time and expense that was not planned but the team was very happy when it was all done as it opened up the main living area quite a bit.

12/20/2021

The duct work completed, the electrical and plumbing for the new bathroom prepped and the sheetrock installed we called in a team to help with the tape, mud and sanding. Weekends 5 and 6 were supposed to be primer and paint. The ladies did a lot of the painting and the foreman quickly realized we were running out of work so the decision was made to remove all of the flooring and install new floors throughout. We had some much needed help from Todd B and John R. A casino run was also made to keep the crews spirits high.

Once the framing was done and the plumbing was "roughed in" the next task on the IJK itinerary was the electrical work Ian coordinated with an electricain who came up for a day and wired everything for us. While he was there he also upgraded the lighting throughout the cabin, wired for a dishwasher and disposal. After the electircal was completed we were able to insulate and sheetrock. Mr. Maisch arrived just in time to help with hauling the sheetrock and join us for the first fishing outing of the Winter. (We are now 4 weekends into this thing)

We got the trusses installed and the floor installed. The exterior wall where the garage door used to be just had plywood tacked on so we could remove it temporarily to bring in supplies. Ron helped a ton with the HVAC install, Scott got a nice cut on his hand while trying to attach two "female" pieces together in the dark crawl space. Once the HVAC was done and all the material was inside, the permenant exterior wall was installed along with the new windows.

Once the insulation was installed for these 2 new bedrooms and bathroom, we could add the truss and the new floor. Up next will be new windows, framing and HVAC!

P.S. The HVAC could not come soon enough as these were some chilly January days working essentially in the elements. No injuries yet. Stay tuned.
