Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with assistance from local agencies, continues to search for Marcin Bachleda-Blaszczak, who was reported missing on the evening of Aug. 24.

Bachleda-Blaszczak is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall and approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He is from Illinois.

Following the missing person report, Bachleda-Blaszczak’s vehicle was located in the Sugarlands Visitor Center parking lot. Based on the investigation to date, his last known location was the Sugarlands Visitor Center parking lot on Aug. 22.

A team of 47 park rangers and volunteers is actively searching areas in and around the park, with additional resources en route to assist. As the search area expands, visitors may encounter search personnel wearing brightly colored shirts both on and off established trails.

Anyone with information about Bachleda-Blaszczak’s whereabouts, or who may have seen him in or around the park, is asked to contact [email protected].

Some thing new I want to try is posting about “day trips” from this area. To me, a day trip is a location that you can reach in about an hour or hour and a half and spend the day and come back home… Today’s trip was to Cherokee. We saw an elk herd and three bull elk. One was an big 6x6!! We also went out on the Parkway towards Maggie Valley to Balsam Ridge and wow at some long range views. Lunch was at Paul’s Restaurant and it was pretty good and later ice cream from the Ice Cream Station. They say their ice cream is from Jersey cows in Lincolnton, NC.

Cherokee also has river tubing and many picnic areas but not many have grills.

Mingus Mill is pretty and also there is the Museum of Cherokee People (just note that it closes at 5:00 and they won’t sell a ticket after 4:00)!

A beautiful evening in the Smokies. Sevier County is remembering Dolly. Flags at half mast, the Space Needle and The Wheel are lit up in pink, and Dolly sayings on almost every business.
