There's just soooo many social media apps out there, I can't keep up with them. And, I really don't use twitter, BUT ~ if your planning a trip to the Smokies you definately want to sign up for notifications from the NPS twitter (especially during winter). I have my twitter set up to send me text notifications on road closures for Great Smoky Mountains NPS ONLY, so I don't get bombarded with other texts. The texts notifications are virtually instantaneous with when they open/close the roads, whereas, the website and other places aren't updated often.

So, grab your smartphone, go ahead and sign up, follow http://twitter.com/smokiesroadsnps , then go into your twitter notifications and set up text alerts, then select "send text alerts" from smokiesroadsnps (only). There will be a dropdown bar on the top right (I believe) of the smokiesroadsnps picture. I also saved a bookmark for smokiesroadsnps on my phone, and dropped it on my home screen for quick access. It's been a lifesaver :)

There may be an easier way to do this, but for a novice (me), it works like a charm...

Tonight's full moon is known as the "Snow Moon" because February is often the snowiest month of the year in the United States. Clear skies combined with the snow from recent storms should make it a bright and beautiful night for enjoying the mountains under the moonlight.
