A Little Cabin Geekery (That Guests Will Never See, But Makes a Big Difference)
I’m always looking for ways to make Trillium Mountain Cabin run smarter behind the scenes. Our newest upgrade adds live propane tank monitoring directly into the generator dashboard—something our guests will never notice, but that helps us keep the cabin reliable and ready no matter the weather.
This gives us real‑time fuel levels, better awareness during storms or cold snaps, and confidence that the backup systems are always prepared—even when we’re 500 miles away. It also ties into our automated generator exercise routines, so the system can run its scheduled health checks without us having to be on‑site.
What I love most is that it’s powered by a tiny Raspberry Pi running the free, open‑source GenMon project. Generac offers a paid monitoring service, but this open‑source setup is actually more feature‑rich and gives us deeper insight without subscription fees. It’s a great example of how thoughtful tech can quietly improve the guest experience without ever getting in the way.
