The Cabin of our Dreams

When my husband Josh and I got together and started our family, we always dreamed of having a getaway. One that wasn’t too far away, but was far away enough to be a treat. We love the outdoors. We love solitude, but we still love to do things and be in surround full of character and life.

Once we became more established and after we had our first set of TWINS, Sami and Mari, we decided now’s the time. We took a family vacation to Gatlinburg, TN and fell in love with it. The scenery, the town, the art, the little shops. We always wanted a cabin as well. I had been looking at properties and saw this one. It was like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree of listings. The pictures were dark, and there were only 4 of them. But it had the right amount of bedrooms and it was in the Art’s District which is where we wanted to be after staying in the town for a week.

We saw it and I immediately saw the potential. There was a hoarder living there at the time, but the bones were good. I love the expansive great room and the way that the house is laid out. But it needed a lot of work. I had NO IDEA the amount of TLC the cabin would need, but I was up for the challenge.

I changed everything to include all new appliances, an entirely new well and pump so that way the water runs like normal water and not like mountain well water. I added all hardwood floors to the upstairs. I even had a chevron pattern put into the hallway upstairs just because I felt it should be there. I picked out and had custom built all the furniture including the leather sofa in the main room. I had the windmill fan custom made for the house and all of the light fixtures. I picked out that gorgeous chandelier in the master and all of the touches including all of the animal hides. All of the paintings I did with the exception of a flag one that I purchased at a local shop. I designed the heart art installation down below the home near the swing. The hearts were made from scrap plastic and created by Josh.
