Today, our hearts are a little heavier here in the Smoky Mountains. ❤️
Dolly Parton was never just a celebrity to us. She was one of us.
She was a daughter of Sevier County who never forgot where she came from. No matter how famous she became or how far her music carried her, she continued to pour her heart back into the mountains and the people who helped shape her.
Dolly had an incredible way of bringing people together. Through her music, her generosity, Dollywood, and the resorts she created here at home, she gave millions of families a place to laugh together, make memories, celebrate milestones, and experience a little piece of the Smoky Mountains she loved so deeply.
But perhaps her greatest legacy isn't what she built or how many records she sold. It's how she made people feel.
She showed us that you could be successful and still be humble. Strong and still be kind. Faithful without judging others. Proud of where you came from while welcoming people from everywhere. She used her success to lift others up, give children opportunities, support her community, and make the world around her a little brighter.
She wasn't simply someone Sevier County was proud to claim. She represented the very best of what we hope our home can be — welcoming, generous, resilient, joyful, and full of heart.
Dolly showed all of us what a life well lived can look like. Love people. Give back. Stay true to who you are. Never forget where you came from, and leave this world better than you found it.

There will never be another Dolly. Her music will live on, but here in these mountains, so will the countless lives, families, and memories she helped shape.
