Sometimes the Best Business Decisions Happen Outside the Office
After about six straight months of meetings, conference calls, Zoom sessions, spreadsheets, and staring at the same office walls every day, our leadership team had reached a point where nobody seemed inspired anymore. Conversations felt repetitive, ideas were becoming smaller instead of bigger, and even simple planning sessions felt more exhausting than productive. We realized we didn’t simply need another meeting. We needed a completely different environment.
That decision led us to Treetops Resort in Northern Michigan, and looking back, it may have been one of the smartest decisions our company ever made. What makes Treetops different is not just the meeting space itself, but also the resort’s more than 25,000 square feet of flexible conference and event facilities. What truly changes the experience is everything surrounding those meeting rooms. The moment people arrive, the atmosphere shifts. Towering trees, rolling hills, cool northern air, and 3,300 acres of natural beauty create an energy that immediately feels calmer, more creative, and far less stressful than a traditional corporate setting.
Something interesting happened during our stay. People actually wanted to spend time together. Conversations continued after sessions ended. Team members gathered around firepits at night, shared drinks overlooking the golf courses, and connected in ways that rarely happen back at the office. Some played golf. Others relaxed at the spa or explored the property. Instead of draining people, the experience seemed to recharge them.
The result was one of the most productive retreats we’ve ever had. New ideas emerged naturally. Problems that had felt complicated suddenly became easier to solve. The entire team returned home feeling motivated, focused, and genuinely connected again. That’s the difference at Treetops. It’s not simply a place to hold meetings.
It’s an environment designed to help people think better, communicate better, and reconnect with the energy that often gets lost in everyday business life.
