Official ODNR snapshot (report filed 8/20/26)
Walleye anglers are doing well trolling from Lorain to Conneaut. Between Euclid and Conneaut (the Geneva stretch), fish are coming from 55–75 ft of water with lures running 45–70 ft down. Typical presentations: spoons, crawler harnesses, or deep crankbaits with divers at 2.5–3.0 mph. Kept fish have been averaging 17–20 inches with some 24”+ mixed in. Anglers who run farther offshore and hunt schools are having the best success.
Water temperatures around that report: ~75°F off Cleveland and ~78°F off Erie. More recent marine observations put surface temps in the mid-70s.
Local charter and recent reports
Geneva-on-the-Lake charters have been reporting consistent limits, often in 6–12 miles of water, with quality fish (20–24”+ and occasional 27”+). Some steelhead are mixed in with the walleye. Fishing has stayed strong through August and is expected to hold into September.
A Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) tournament—the Geneva GOTL Open—is running today (Aug 29) out of the Geneva area, so expect extra boat traffic around the State Park launch.
