This Arts-and-Crafts-style mansion in the Olive Street Historic District was constructed in 1919 (after a fire damaged the original structure) by prolific builder C. Sells and his wife, Olive Traylor Sells, whose children were to attend Southwestern University across the avenue. Built to accommodate a large and socially prom

inent family, the stately manor features a generous wrap-around veranda, original beveled and leaded glass doors and windows, grand foyer with original mahogany woodwork, spacious dining room, and elegant parlors. Cherished over the years by other well-known Georgetown families including Dr. Rice and his wife Jewel, the Hendersons, and the Brooks, the mansion has retained a majestic and welcoming presence. Today, you can experience the historic San Gabriel House Bed & Breakfast with a stay in one of the five luxurious second-floor bedrooms, all with pillow-top king beds and private baths; or, the Carriage House Loft, with a King bed, day bed with trundle, kitchenette and private entrance. Lounge on the balcony, where university students once danced to jazz bands. Enjoy a freshly prepared two-course breakfast served on China and crystal in the handsome dining room. Experience grace, splendor, and hospitality in one of Georgetown's significant remaining historic homes. The mansion, now owned by Jeannie Snead, remains Georgetown's foremost Bed & Breakfast establishment. Treat yourself, family and friends to a unique Bed & Breakfast experience with a stay at the historic San Gabriel House.

Meet Patricia!
Around 1970, Burl and Patricia Brooks, who owned the local Sears store, bought the property. Originally the sleeping porch, Patricia’s porch sits a few steps down from the rest of the second floor, with window-filled walls providing excellent views of the landscaped gardens. On the back, south side of the house, this room is bright and sunny, yet light-blocking shades can easily make it tranquil and private. Macramé café curtains and earthy colors of burnt sienna and pale harvest gold evoke the seventies, when Patricia raised chickens in the backyard to sell the eggs at their Sears store and ruled the local flower-arranging society. An artistically carved wooden four-poster king bed, a comfy chair, and dark accent pieces create a comfortable, graceful feel. As with all our rooms, this room has a supplemental heating/cooling system that allows guests to have complete temperature control. The en-suite private bathroom is enchanting and unique, featuring a generous custom tiled walk-in shower with a built-in seat. The original windows sport the same light-blocking shades and macrame curtains as the bedroom, letting you enjoy the morning sunlight or complete privacy.
