🦐🔥 THE SHRIMP ARE STILL RUNNING THICK TONIGHT!! 🔥🦐

Just when you think the sh*****ng can’t get any better, the St John's delivers another incredible night!

Last night was actually our first somewhat slow night in about a month. The shrimp were still there, but they didn’t really start picking up until later in the evening when the current started moving.

TONIGHT WAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY!! 💥

We hosted 2 different groups that came here only to catch shrimp. As soon as the sun went down, it was GAME ON! Shrimp on EVERY cast, and LOTS of them! They limited out by 9pm🦐🪣

We’re well into October, and this shrimp run just keeps on giving! We’ve had an absolutely phenomenal season here at Georgetown Marina, Lodge & RV Park, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down so far!!

How much longer will they keep running? Your guess is as good as mine! They could be gone tomorrow or keep going for weeks.

🦐 NO LIGHTS, NO BAIT, ONE CAST! A LITTLE SH*****NG EXPERIMENT! 🦐

Normally, our docks have at least one group out sh*****ng every single night. But last night, nobody was out there, and tonight was the same deal!

For the past several weeks, our docks have been lit up with artificial lights and the water has been baited extensively. On some of the better nights, guests have been catching anywhere from 50 to 300 shrimp per cast!

So tonight, with nobody around, I got curious and decided to try a little experiment. 🤔

What would happen if I went out there with absolutely NO lights and NO bait?

I grabbed my 7-foot cast net, walked out onto the dark, empty dock, and threw ONE CAST.

🦐🐟 This is everything that came up!

There’s definitely a higher number of pogies mixed in than what we’ve typically been seeing. I’m not sure if that’s because there were no lights or bait in the water, or if the pogies are simply starting to increase as we get later into the season.

Either way, I thought it was pretty interesting to see what was out there without doing anything to attract the shrimp!

One thing is for sure: The sh*****ng has been INCREDIBLE this year! 🦐🔥

They could keep running for another couple of weeks, or the whole thing could be over tomorrow. That’s just the unpredictable nature of the shrimp run!

Better come get ‘em while they’re still here!!

🦐 JUST HOW BIG ARE THE SHRIMP WE’VE BEEN CATCHING?! 🦐

Tonight is the first night in weeks that we haven’t had a single person out on our docks catching shrimp! So, I figured I’d take a minute to show everyone the average size of the shrimp we’ve been seeing here at Georgetown Marina!

I know everyone has their own opinion of what qualifies as a “large shrimp,” but let’s put some actual numbers to it!

If you’re familiar with buying shrimp at the grocery store or seafood market, they’re typically graded by how many shrimp make up a pound. The fewer shrimp per pound, the bigger they are!

🦐 Here’s where ours measured up!

I grabbed a random sample of shrimp caught right here off our docks. No cherry-picking the biggest ones, no sorting through them to make the numbers look better.

The result? 26 shrimp per pound!

That’s with the heads removed and shells still on, putting our average shrimp right in the EXTRA LARGE (26/30) category!

I’m pretty confident I could have reached JUMBO status if I’d handpicked only the biggest ones, but I wanted to show everyone what we’ve actually been catching on average.

It’s been an incredible shrimp season, and although the docks are unusually quiet tonight, we’re hoping the shrimp stick around a little longer!

A guest of ours just saved this dog's life. He was clinging to a dock and nearly drowned. He is very weak and shivering from the cold. Does anyone recognize this dog or know who he belongs to?

A guest of ours pulled this poor dog out of the water just a few minutes ago. It's shivering and was moments from death before she pulled him out. He has no strength and can barely walk, but I have a heater on him until the sun comes out. Does anyone recognize him?
Latest update: I just received a message; The dog belongs to a neighbor and found his way home. Apparently, he was left outside and slipped off his leash while his owner was out of town.

🎣 Everyone’s talking about the shrimp run, but don’t forget… WE’RE A FISH CAMP TOO!! 🐟

There hasn’t been much fishing activity around here lately, but that doesn’t mean the fish have stopped biting!!

The Bream and Catfish photo was from tonight. They were caught by a family staying with us and those Specks were caught by another guest last week!

With the crazy weather and so many people focused on sh*****ng, there’s hardly anyone staying here to fish right now. But as you can see, the fish are still here and they’re still hungry!
