30 Days of Portland Head Light - 30/30

Beacons of Light -
- March 16, 2021 3:22 AM -

I can't believe we're here at the end already! I'm afraid this might be a little anticlimactic for folks who were expecting a big reveal. This is an unreleased image, yes, but I'm not sure it ranks among the best in this series. If you haven't noticed already, these have been posted in chronological order. It was fun doing it that way for me because we got to see some growth in my approach, some creative detours that I'm happy I explored, and a stronger relationship and depth of understanding as time went on. As you can see, I found a few tried and true perspectives that I came back to, especially towards the end here, in different light and conditions. Do I think I've exhausted all the possibilities at Portland Head Light? Absolutely not!

I love photographing at night. It's surprising to me that I don't do it more often. I had never been here at night. I don't know if you've been to Portland Head Light at sunset, but in the summer there's usually someone shooing you out the park so they can all go home and not worry about any hooligans causing a ruckus after hours. I respect that and have always left when told, which is rare because I'm often here at sunrise, not sunset. Technically, yes, the gates are most often closed at night. But if you have good scuba gear and don't mind getting a little wet... I'm just kidding. You just have to get lucky and hope that one of the gates are open. I was here in the wee hours in March 2021 and gathered this image. It was cold, but absolutely beautiful seeing this!
