Built in 1786, the Brafferton Inn is the oldest deeded house in Gettysburg. Michael Hoke, a local tanner, purchased the lot from James Gettys for 3 pounds and 15 shillings of real gold. Michael Hoke built the house before there was a town. He used a brown stone which is native to the area in the construction. The 4 bedroom house was expanded in 1815 with an addition of a kitchen and a larger dining room. In 1843, Nicholas Codori bought the house for $1,600. He had immigrated to Gettysburg from France and had apprenticed himself to a local butcher. More history to come soon.
