Glacier City Gardener
The name Glacier City is a throw back to the mining days. A name used by early gold miners to describe present day Girdwood, Alaska. Gardening is my passion and I was best known for being the gardener for Alyeska Resort. Hence the name for my business, Glacier City Gardener. Gardening in Alaska my plants must be hardy. They must be unique because I can't compete with big
box stores and large nurseries. From seed to your garden, my plants are 100% "Alaska Grown". All of my perennials are grown in a sustainable manner with organic fertilizers, recycling pots, and a low carbon foot print. As you can see by my posts I have a love of all things primula and have a wide variety for sale. Saturdays I can be found selling plants at the Spenard Farmers Market in Anchorage. On Sundays I sell plants out of my home in Girdwood where visitors can see the perennials growing in my own garden. I also set up a "farm stand" in my yard for self service plant sales when I am not around. I am also available for plant sales by appointment. Cultural note - I am a zone 4 here in Girdwood, Alaska. On a "normal" year we recieve about 150" of snow, 60" of rain. Summers are cool. For 2016, July Max temp was 82, min 55 and average temp of 66. The last few years, winters have not dropped bellow 0 and snow cover has been less reliable. I have included these rough stats so you have a little insight into the cultural conditions that these plants are grown in. The purpose of this page to educate, entertain and inform gardeners.
