The tents are up, much of the divisional sets and supplies are distributed. The grounds and buildings are ready and food preparation has been happening. Yesterday afternoon we fueled and prepped the tow vehicles and paired them up with trailers, loaded the blocks, fence, posts, rebar and finalized a lot of other preparations to facilitate a smooth and productive camp pitch day tomorrow. Our skeleton staff is worn out after weeks of preparation, especially after this last week with temps in the hi 90’s and several of us logging more than 80 hours Sunday through Friday. (Did I hear something about a holiday last week?) But, the time has arrived and we’re excited for Gladstone Camp Meeting 2023…. Bring it!!!

Yesterday, we announced that the Gladstone Campground Evacuation Site (Hope Valley) will be closed effective September 30 at noon. The Oregon Conference is glad to serve the needs of evacuees by providing a safe, stable place for families with RVs to stay while navigating this crisis. While we care deeply about the families that have been staying in Hope Valley, we are only equipped to serve as a short-term site. That’s why we’ve been working behind the scenes with our partners at Clackamas County and the American Red Cross to make sure that when we reach the end of what we can offer, there is a solid plan to take care of the few families that still need support.

Today, we are confident that our partners have an effective transition plan in place to facilitate appropriate shelter for evacuees. This allows us to transition our energy toward longer-term support of fire victims. The state of Oregon has asked us to take the lead in donations management and warehousing in fire-affected areas of Oregon. As we begin to shift our focus toward this longer-term responsibility, we are thankful for the opportunity to work with state and local partners to continue to meet the needs of fire victims.

A team from Clackamas County will be on site this afternoon for our 4:30 Community meeting. They will be sharing new information and answering questions from Hope Valley guests.

The campground survived the rainstorm and the air is only "unhealthy for sensitive groups."

Everybody doing okay?

Air quality today? Not so good. It's a great idea to wear a mask.

Air quality in the region is currently hazardous. You should stay inside as much as possible when your Air Quality Rating is “unhealthy” or worse.

You can find the air quality in your area by typing in your zip code at AirNow.gov.
