The Hideout RV Campground, Cabins & Tiny Home Living Enjoy every season at the Hideout! RV & Tent Camping with long term Cabins & RV/Tiny Home living! whom operated the Cardiff coke ovens right down the road.

You’ll find a Fur Trader’s cabin built in 1888 and three other stone buildings on the property when you arrive. Originally a silver fox farm when the era of fur-trapping was over. Our smallest cabins (circa 1928) were originally located next to the railroad tracks in downtown Glenwood Springs. When the city was ready to be rid of them, the then property owner proposed that he be given the cabins i

f he were to move them. The city agreed and so each cabin was skidded by sled and horse to the property. This enabled the owner to offer housing to Compass Mountain miners (now Sunlight Mountain) and to employees of The Colorado Fuel & Iron Co. The large hill between our lower RV loop and Midland Ave/CR 117 stands as a lone survivor of a onetime railway that delivered supplies by locomotive to the town of Cardiff and Compass Mt. mine, only to be reloaded with coal for the return trip down the mountain. Our two log cabins were handcrafted in the early 50′s by Bert Cator. Bert and his first wife, Hilda, owned and operated “Cator’s Hideout” for years and made improvements to the park, which included a “tourist’s court” or what we call the campground. The family who purchased the property from The Cator’s renamed the park, “The Hideout” and we kept the name since then.
