We had a couple of firsts here at Dirty Boots On Big Stony this weekend. Blueberry biscuits and a pin in South Carolina. And what appeared to be two very relaxed Hokie Fans who left with a fully belly, a hug and a goodie bag for their drive home.

Our 2nd guests of the season have come and gone. They were visiting from Wisconsin, here to do a section hike of the AT with their daughter who lives in Arlington. Lots of conversation and they immediately realized my love of rocks and gifted this fun rock from Wisconsin. It feels like a pictogram, both sides I see multiple images. What do you see?

We truly have the sweetest guests! Our favorite part of every stay is preparing a beautiful breakfast and hearing a little about them. Dirty Boots had its first official guests of the 2022 season the last two nights. We have really enjoyed getting back into the groove and meeting new people. The feedback was wonderful and well appreciated. We are almost flipped and ready for the nexts guests later today.

15 months later the magic of the AT being across the street is not lost on us. After a big breakfast this morning we got onto the trail at Cherokee Flats and walked the 3 miles back to the house. I was in search of wildflowers but only spotted a few. I think the elevation may be a little too high here which keeps the temps much lower at night? But there is still magic to see and feel with each step and the air is sweet with the smell and sounds of Spring. You should come and see it for yourself!

Learning and Growing…Growing and Learning! That is our current motto at Dirty Boots on Big Stony, and we have learned so very much in our first year! Our location is remote and full of amazing activities. However, with this comes some challenges. Our winter weather is a bit more extreme and obviously unpredictable. The roads are a little slower to be cleared and the power has been out during some of the most recent inclement weather events. So, considering the safety and comfort of our guests, going forward we have decided to be a 3 season AirBnB. We will be open early spring through late fall, which our Booking Calendar now reflects. We have been blessed by this journey and look forward to year two!! Please feel free to ask away if you have any questions! 🙂

We got snow two days this week and it has been absolutely beautiful. We took a drive this afternoon and within 5 miles on both sides of the house we found nothing but beauty and LOTS of snow! We drove along Big Stony Creek, stopped at the Whistle Stop and Glen Alton. It’s COLD outside but warm inside 🙂
