Camp Strang

Camp Strang Housatonic Council's 200 acre Resident Camp in Goshen , CT The Housatonic Council serves the five communities in the Lower Naugatuck Valley of Connecticut. L.

They are Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton. The Housatonic Council, although organized in 1920, held its first annual meeting Jan. 25, 1923 and voted to organize as a first class council to have jurisdiction over Scouting in Ansonia, Shelton and Seymour in addition to Derby. The territory was extended to include Oxford at a later date. The same 1923 meeting voted to adopt the name Housa

tonic Council, Boy Scouts of America, and to employee a Scout Executive. The first executive board met March 22, 1923. It was nearly 20 years later, in September 1940, that steps were taken to incorporate the council. Finally, on March 3, 1941, the incorporators-James F. Halpin, Frank H. Gates, Earl B. Boies, L. DeSaulniers and Edward L. Miller-met with Attorney Francis Baut and the Scout Executive to sign Articles of Association. The papers were approved the following day in Hartford by the Secretary of the State.

Dear Leaders:

Connecticut is expected to see a significant amount of rain throughout the day today. Our Camp Administration team has consulted with our colleagues and neighboring summer camps. Due to high winds, road erosion, and flood concerns, we feel airing on the side of caution is appropriate as we consider today's check-in process.

We will be delaying the start time of Week 2 to 6:00pm. A scoutmaster meeting will take place in the Dining Hall at 5:00pm. Dinner will be available buffett style between 6:00-8:00pm. For safety, Swim Checks will be delayed to Monday Morning.

Scouts and units are welcome to stay in our Dining Hall Facility until they are able to set up their campsite. If your scouts would feel more comfortable arriving tomorrow morning (Monday) please call our Camp Office (860-491-2770) so that we may help accommodate this as well.

We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work together to adjust our check in process in order to ensure the safety of our scouts.

Please call any of the admin team below if you have any questions or concerns.

See you at camp soon!

The Edmund D. Strang Scout Reservation Staff and Volunteers, would like to thank Joe Barletta and The W.I. Clark Company for their hard work and generous donation of a John Deere 135 excavator for us to use this past weekend to clear land in the main area of camp so we can enjoy the view of beautiful West Side Pond from the dining hall!

See the flyer with the details of the Memorial for John Zseller.

It is being held at Camp Strang on Saturday, October 15th at 1 pm down at the amphitheater. That weekend is Fall Camporee weekend so hopefully all/most units will be represented at the Memorial, which John would have loved. Scouts will be dismissed immediately following the service in order to resume stations.

If anyone has pictures of John from unit visitations, events, fundraisers, etc. please forward me a copy to include in a slide show to honor him.

Please pass this information along to anyone that may be interested in attending as well. I look forward to seeing you there!

Any questions contact the office at 203-734-3329, x302.
