Heavenhill Guesthouse

Heavenhill Guesthouse Historical Home available for Vacation Rentals, Day Rentals for Studio, Gallery, Gatherings, Photogr Bridge Street right off the square in Granbury, TX.

Built in 1897, Heavenhill is a quaint little cottage located on E. We named her Heavenhill due to the writing we found on a piece of the bead board ceiling: "Josephine Heavenhill + Little Louise Miller Jan. 1 1897 Cross of the Heart." This home was meant for me as my last name is Miller! And what a unique name; Heavenhill. Built on a bit of hill herself, that overlooked the old Brazos river (back before Lake Granbury), it was plain as day on what this ol' gal's name was going to be!

I’ve got a story for y’all and I hope I can make it easy to follow so I’ll keep it short-ish.

We have a lone grave on our property in Bluff Dale. I have done research on Oramel throughout the years. Some of his family including his son AJ Clark is buried at Rock Church Cemetery in Tolar.

Today I decided to look into the Clark family that used to live at Hh (1920s-1960) Grady Clark was a barber on the square—things I already knew. Today I came across Grady Clark’s sons obituary which said he was buried at Rock Church—-hmm very interesting since I knew Oramel Clark’s family is there. Same last name—related!?!

After some sleuthing around on the internet I confirmed that Grady Clark’s great grandfather is Oramel Clark!! How crazy is that? We own the land in Bluff Dale where he is buried and I own his great grandson’s home in Granbury.

Side note: Grady Clark’s daughter married a man that grew up with my grandpa in a town outside of DeLeon.

The take away—there has to be reason why i am connected to this family. We are all stewards of this world in some way or another—I suppose I am here to honor and carry on these familes’ legacies that once lived on these parcels of land. I also think it is sooo important to preserve these legacies even if they didn’t live in the fanciest houses or have the biggest store on the square.

They absolutely contributed to our towns and we should honor all the old homes (big and small) that still carry the history of the ones before us.

Hh is decorated for Christmas. I love these vintage stockings I’ve accumulated over the years. Zoom in on the little trousers. Just darling. I have an electric space heater that looks like logs in the non working—super old— fireplace. The flickering flame like light creates the best ambience in the living room.

Behind the scenes: I am always picking up limbs—sometimes huge ones like this. This pecan tree keeps me on my toes. Stay alert when around any pecan. I am afraid to park under them wherever I go.
