This year, I'm asking you to skip the birthday gifts and help me do something that truly matters.

For nearly 10 years, my dear friend Jon Jenkins was the heartbeat of our Community Thanksgiving: the man who started smoking turkeys in August just to make sure everything was perfect. We recently lost Jon, and we honor his memory in the renaming of our annual Community Thanksgiving. It is with great pleasure that I announce the Williams-Jenkins Community Thanksgiving.

So, in his honor and profound memory, instead of shots, gifts and birthday wishes, I'm asking my friends to "Buy a Bird!"
