The crabs are starting to show up and will only get more plentiful as the water gets warmer. Also in the past few trips, we’ve seen more flounder than we have in years, including this doormat! Summer weekends are booking up fast. If you’re thinking about coming down, reserve your stay before it’s too late.

POSTPONED:

🐢🐢 Sea Turtle Release Postponed
The sea turtle release originally scheduled for today in Grand Isle has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. A new date will be announced soon.

26 sea turtles rehabilitated by Audubon Aquarium Rescue are set to return to the Gulf. Most — 24 — are endangered Kemp’s ridley turtles rescued from Massachusetts, and the other two are green sea turtles found in Port Fourchon.

The turtles were treated for cold-related illnesses, which can cause hypothermia in cold-blooded animals. Each received individualized care to ensure a safe recovery.

Stay tuned for the new release date!

If you spot stranded or out-of-habitat marine animals in Louisiana, report it to Audubon Aquarium Rescue at 877-942-5343

Audubon Aquarium, Audubon Zoo

Audubon Aquarium Rescue is releasing sea turtles at Grand Isle Beach tomorrow, February 27th, at 11:00 am. The release will be on the beach by crossover 3.2. If you’re on the island, this would be a cool thing to check out.

DOTD implements “Pleasure Boat” toll discount on the LA 1 “Gateway to the Gulf” Expressway
Monday, December 22, 2025 at 2:09:37 PM

Leeville, LA – In response to Senate Bill 492, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a new “LA 1 Recreational Boat Discount” that is now available for GeauxPass customers who use the LA 1 Gateway to the Gulf Expressway/Tomey J. Doucet Bridge on LA 1 between Leeville and Port Fourchon/Grand Isle.

The Louisiana Legislature enacted Senate Bill No. 492/Act No. 361, informally known as the “Pleasure Boat Bill,” to include a discount for customers who tow their recreational boat over the “Class 2” size limit (a combined vehicle and trailer length of over 35 feet) on the bridge in Leeville. Instead of paying the higher “Class 3” rate ($21), this legislation reduces the toll for towing a boat trailer used for recreational purposes to the “Class 2” rate ($10.50), regardless of the trailer or boat size.

To take advantage of the new discount, customers will have to meet these requirements:
Be an established GeauxPass customer with an account in good standing, or a customer who is opening a new GeauxPass account;
Have a GeauxPass transponder/toll tag (available from GeauxPass when establishing an account);
Be using the towed boat for recreational/personal use only (not for business purposes).

How to Apply:
Contact GeauxPass and supply proof of boat registration, trailer registration, and vehicle license plate number. Contact GeauxPass by calling the Customer Service Center at 1-866-662-8987 or by visiting the Walk-In Customer Service Center located at 1821 S Alex Plaisance Blvd #3235, Golden Meadow, LA 70357.

Restrictions:
Discounts will be applied after documentation has been validated. Trips before validation are not included.
Does not apply to vessels engaged in commercial use or carrying passengers.
The discount is only valid on the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge (also known as LA 1 Gateway to the Gulf Expressway) in Leeville, LA (Lafourche Parish).

A list of all GeauxPass tolling discounts can be found by clicking the “tolling discounts” link on the GeauxPass website (GeauxPass.com).

When the weather is warm enough to get in the surf, there’s a lot of hungry fish behind the camp! I had two really good trips before the last cold front. All fish were caught on the same matrix shad tipped with a little fresh shrimp. The key was the death grip jig head to keep the plastic on. As long as the air temp isn’t too bad, the water is warm enough to wade in, and once you start catching fish, you forget about the temperature.
