🚲 Bike Rentals Included with Your Stay! 🌊🌲

With the improved air quality, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore Minnesota’s beautiful North Shore!

As a guest at Thomsonite Inn, you can enjoy our complimentary bike rentals, and we also provide helmets so you can ride safely while taking in the scenery.

One of our favorite rides is the Gitchi-Gami State Trail, the start of the trail is located just a couple of minutes west of the Inn at Cut Face Creek Wayside.

📍 Getting there from Thomsonite Inn:
Head west on Highway 61 for about 2 miles to Cut Face Creek Wayside. You’ll find parking and easy access to the paved Gitchi-Gami State Trail.

This completed section of the trail is about 5 miles one way to Grand Marais, making it a great ride for all experience levels. Along the route, you’ll enjoy incredible views of Lake Superior, peaceful forests, and one of the trail’s highlights, the beautiful Fall River Bridge, where you can stop to look down at the picturesque Fall River Waterfall as it rushes toward Lake Superior. There are plenty of scenic overlooks and photo opportunities along the way, making it just as enjoyable to stop and take in the views as it is to ride.

Whether you’re looking for a leisurely cruise or a fun outdoor adventure, the Gitchi-Gami State Trail is one of the best ways to experience the North Shore.

We know many of you are wondering what conditions are like here in Grand Marais, and we wanted to share an update from our team 🧡
➡️ Most importantly, we want to be clear that Thomsonite Inn is not located within any evacuation zones and we are not currently threatened by any active wildfires. We remain open and welcoming guests.
☕ Reduced air quality has led us to shift our focus indoors, making it a great time to explore everything Grand Marais has to offer. Stroll through locally owned shops, browse the town's art galleries, learn about the area's rich heritage at the Cook County History Museum, or relax with a cozy meal or coffee.
🎨 If you're looking for even more to do, guests of Thomsonite Inn are also welcome to enjoy Bluefin Bay's complimentary indoor activities, including clay crafting, volcanic rock talks, and art rock painting.
We're deeply grateful to the firefighters, emergency responders, and countless others working around the clock to keep people safe and protect the community that means so much to all of us.

This scenic stop is just 2 minutes (about 1 mile) from Thomsonite Inn on Highway 61, making it the perfect place to start your morning with a coffee and end your day searching the shoreline. You’ll find stunning Lake Superior views, a pebble beach that’s popular for rock collecting and stone skipping, picnic areas, seasonal restrooms, and access to the Gitchi-Gami State Trail.

📍 From Thomsonite Inn:
➡️ Head southwest on Highway 61 for about 1 mile (around a 2-minute drive).
➡️ Cut Face Creek Wayside will be on your right.
