A 2016 memory surfaced this morning. A beautiful family. They had never seen a toboggan!

I know we have a long way to go to get da ole hotel where we want it; but the compliments we've had all summer long have really helped us feel we are allot closer than where where we think we are. So many guests say don't change it much, don't change a thing, and as I sat typing, I heard a lady tell her husband, this is our best stop ever, I don't remember how we found it and I forgot the kind of coffee he said it was. But, my favorite compliment, as egocentric as I am, came from the Grandfather of this Iranian family this morning. He couldn't speak English, so his daugher-in-law said, "Grandfather would like a picture of you; is that ok?" I laughed and obliged! Then she said, "Can Grandfather get another picture of you. "You didn't have smile", he said, "and he wants a picture with your smile because you have so much love in your face." Very sweet and gentle folks. We hope they make it back someday!

Geez, we have Rich's photo but no Marisa. Not sure how that happened. Maybe because we had her in the book for this weekend rather than last. Kurt, after catering another graduation party appears to be looking at how much he lost on his hotel time share. The two Charlevoix ladies found some stones in the overnight stay and Evie, after spending another Twilighter's Weekend on Mack Is visited to clean up her mother's home. And, yep, the two guys found rocks. People just check out whenever, but their spirit never leaves!

We had some great couples here including Browns, Bears, and Lions fans. We are sure to see some of the folks again and hope them all again. But are unsure of the top right couple who are from Washington State and Seahawks Fans! Seems they all had an enjoyable stay!

Well, fun times discussing Lindsey's no show last winter; the second photo including her family.. We hope to see our renowned repeat customer in the future. And, I think there are some missing keys because of these three reputable carpenters. The Nelson family caught their limit twice, and Chris and the girls found their limit along the shoreline!

We've had several repeat customers-rock hunters up this early spring, including Mitch who was here with two separate women; one his mother and the other his wife. Behind every good man, there are two good women!

The Mermaid Room is also our Honeymoon Suite. Hmm! If my grandparents were alive this unmarried couple would have had to sleep in separate rooms; and by the way, we've heard from couples that there is only a 5 month gestation period if babies are conceived at Grand Marais' Superior Hotel.

So, I've told the story of a daughter calling me at midnight (if they're calling late at night, I answer, because it most likely is someone in need of a room) in January asking what the mosquitos were like on Memorial Day weekend. My response "you are seriously calling me at midnight in the middle of a January snowstorm to ask me what the mosquitos are like Memorial weekend? We did have some good laughs before hanging up. The next morning dad called and apologized only to then make reservations. I completely forgot about the family's reservations and began telling the story last night only to then think, "OMG, I'll bet the family with the four rooms, yes, that was the family. The January incident was never mentioned but it would have been fun for some good laughs! And, like the Pentwater farmers when asking what the weather forecast is; "We will tell you tomorrow what it is today. No that the weekend is over there were no mosquitoes during the Memorial Day Weekend! What a fun stellar family these folks were and a joy to serve!
