We got an update this week from the US Forest Service that the food storage order for the Boundary Waters has been extended for another five years. These best "bear aware" practices have proven to significantly lower the risk of bear/human interactions. Following the guidelines by storing anything that might attract wildlife, like food and toiletries, hung in a tree or stored in a certified bear resistant container makes our beloved wilderness safer for both humans and bears. We can all do our part!

I remember visiting many visitors from the Twin Cities and South Minneapolis. Many of my University of St Thomas classmates I am sure have family members and friends who have been directly affect by this tragedy. I know I have family members who have been affected. I think it's true of Cook County in general, but certainly true of Stone Harbor specifically that the folks you met have varried and interesting experiences, interests, and talents. Carl and his wife are just one example.

A couple of us took a drive up the Gunflint Trail today to pick up a couple kayaks at the Seagull Landing. On the way back we stopped at Trail Center Lodge hoping to get some lunch but they were closed. However across the road was the Big Back Eats Food Stand.

This is a food truck that Sarah has worked on along with a non profit group call One Spirit. They bring in young people from the Pine Ridge Reservation to work at Trail Center and they have now been trained to run this food truck. It is fabulous. great service, great food and I would expect nothing less from Sarah and her people.
