Did you know you can use our lovely Grand Marais Public Library when you’re visiting us, even if you’re from another area? You’ve probably driven by it on Highway 61 when you visited us, but you can also stop in to use our library’s facility and materials. This is a very accessible library, with a super helpful staff. There’s also regular family programming that you’re welcome to participate in. Next up: The Jolly Pops Concert for Kids this Friday at 3:30.

Bearskin’s busy free activity schedule started Monday, and it’s been so fun. Nineteen activities in every 7- day period, geared to every age group, kids and adults. Lots more photos to come, but here are a few from our first days. We’re also posting a tentative schedule, to give you some ideas about what we’re doing this summer. There will DEFINITELY be some changes on days and times— we’ve already discovered activities running too close in the schedule. But this gives you a rough idea for this summer.

Guests are often surprised that we don’t charge for all these activities, and sometimes expect there might be some sly “activity fee” or “resort charge” on the bill. Nah, we’re one of the last major resorts that refuses to add those extra fees. Maybe someday circumstances will force us to do that, but we don’t much like the concept of required activity charges (often posing as “taxes” 🙄) added on at the end. We do our complimentary programming because it brings families back year after year, generation after generation, to continue painting rocks on the porch and racing leeches on the beach. ♥️

Bearskin’s full activity schedule begins this week and runs through the end of August. We will be sharing daily photos; you’re going to love this year’s activities!

But here’s another activity families should add to their summer schedule — Kids’ Day at Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center starts this Tuesday. Admission is free for kids from 11 AM to 4 PM (and very reasonably priced for adults). There are all sorts of special nature-related activities that kids love. If you’ll be at Bearskin this weekend, run up to Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center at the end of the Gunflint to hear author Cary Griffith. His presentations are always extremely popular.

June 21, 2026 , 2:00–3:30 p.m. — Cary J. Griffith, author of ten books, will present at Chik-Wauk Museum & Nature Center. Cary will discuss his book Gunflint Falling, and his newest release, Grizzly Narrows, the sixth installment in the Sam Rivers mystery series. He will also share about his latest nonfiction work, The Prism of the Wolf.

Alas, things sometimes go awry. We have a couple last minute cancellations in prime cabins -- if you're ready to head up north soon, we have a place for you!

[EDIT: Cabin 4 rebooked right away.] Cabin 4, July 3rd - July 11: This is a tough cabin to get in, so unusual that it now has an opening. (If you're already in this week and wish you'd been able to get into Cabin 4, call us now and we'll switch you.) Open for full week rentals or we'll take 3+ nights also at this point. Still available: Cabin 10, next week starting 6/21. This was an exceptionally late cancel, but if you have the time we'll rent any 3+ nights out of the week--or stay for the week, which will help the cancelling guest get her deposit back. Forecast looks really good for the coming week and there's even a good chance of northern lights mid-week. Water is already warm enough for swimming and the fishing has been excellent. It’s the moosiest time of the year. Both Annette and Katie had moose viewing success yesterday. As Annette said, “Some nights just feel moosey… so you get in your car & drive. 🫎🫢😊🙌.”

EDIT: short stay June 28-June 30 is now all that remains of this one. Good opportunity if you’ve always wanted to visit Bearskin but can’t manage a longer stay!

Last minute cancellation in beautiful Engelmann Spruce Cabin 10 for Sunday, June 28 - Sunday, July 4. The opening just came up today, so we’re willing to go with a shorter 5-night stay for this one. Head into Grand Marais for the fireworks show over Lake Superior to create new holiday memories for your family. (Or if you like to avoid the fireworks drama, our Superior National Forest is a no-fireworks zone and mostly there’s very little noise.)

Engelmann Spruce Cabin 10 is a 2-bedroom, luxury log cabin made from immense hand-peeled spruce logs, and featuring a huge wood-burning stone fireplace.
